Head coach Jodi Kest and the 2004-05 edition of the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi women’s basketball team produced one of the greatest seasons in program history. 23 wins, a tournament bid and countless records elevated the team to national prominence in its sixth year of existence.

The success of the program earned the Islanders the first Presidential Award of the Silver Wave, presented on April 29, 2005, by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi President & CEO Dr. Flavius Killebrew.
With a young roster consisting of one senior, three juniors, six sophomores and three freshmen, the Islanders won the Division I Independent Championship and earned the first postseason bid in program history, advancing to the 2005 Women’s National Invitation Tournament. A&M-Corpus Christi knocked off Fresno State 56-53 in the American Bank Center before falling at Texas A&M in the second round, finishing the season at 23-7.
For their efforts on the court, a quartet of Islanders picked up postseason honors. Coach Kest was named All-Independent Coach of the Year. Jackie Ododa earned her second straight Defender of the Year award. Terra Andrews took home Player of the Year awards, and was joined on the All-Independent First Team by Kirbria Lewis, with Ododa earning Second Team laurels.
Academic success by the Islanders was not overlooked, as Andrews and sophomore Nicole Duncan received Independent All-Academic recognition with 3.64 and 3.81 GPAs, respectively.
To this day, several individual marks from the season have stood the test of time. Andrews still holds the record for most 20-point games in a season with 11, and remains second in points scored (465) and scoring average (15.5). Ododa continues to sit atop the single-season record book with 317 rebounds, 10.6 rebounds per game, 149 offensive rebounds and 168 defensive rebounds.
As a team, the Islanders posted the first 20-win season in program history. They still hold the record for lowest opponent scoring average at 56.2 points per game, lowest opponent field goal percentage with 37.2-percent, lowest attempted free throws for opponents and most blocks in a season with 113.
