South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union.
The South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union, is an annual rivalry series in which Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV compete against each other in 12 sports, including twice each in volleyball, golf, men's and women's basketball, and tennis, once in women's soccer and a three-game series in baseball. The winner of men's and women's cross country and outdoor track & field will come down to final standings at the Southland Conference Championships. Archive
Points System
- There will be a total of 60 points available in athletic competition and four points available in fan competition.
- Whichever team draws the larger attendance during meetings in volleyball and men's and women's basketball will earn one point per sport.
- Additionally, all sport programs will now have the opportunity to earn up to six points during the season. No more than two competitions per sport will be included in the point totals.
- In the event of a tie, the tiebreaker will come down to the Southland Conference Academic Performance Award standings.
- Should the competition already be decided, the trophy will be presented before the game.
Trophy
The yearly champion will be presented with a traveling trophy at the final meeting of the academic year. The champion will retain possession of the trophy until the following year's trophy presentation. The Islanders lead the all-time series 6-2.
