Madison Green nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year Award

July 14, 2020

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Former Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball and beach volleyball standout Madison Green is among a record 605 women in contention for the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, as announced by the national office Tuesday afternoon.

Rooted in Title IX, the NCAA Woman of the Year Award was established in 1991 to recognize graduating female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

The nominees represent all three NCAA divisions, including 259 nominees from Division I, 126 from Division II and 220 from Division III. Nominees competed in 24 sports, with multisport student-athletes accounting for 128 of the nominees.

"Madison is so deserving of this tremendous honor," said head volleyball coach Steve Greene. "She has persevered through difficult personal challenges in the last couple of years and due to her work ethic has succeeded on and off the court."

Green, a four year member of the Islander volleyball and beach volleyball programs, finished her career this past fall as one of the most decorated players in school history. In 2019 alone, the Dripping Springs, Texas native was named the SLC Student-Athlete of the Year, Setter of the Year and was named to the First Team All-Southland and All-Academic teams. She was also selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First team, named Texas A&M-Corpus Christi athletics' Student-Athlete of the Year and was a 2019 Senior CLASS Award nominee.

In her final season with the Islanders, Green appeared in all 31 matches and played in 115 total sets, tallying up 864 assists, 283 kills, 253 digs, 33 service aces and 29 blocks. She led the conference and ranked third nationally with seven triple-doubles on the season.

"Madison is an elite athlete leading her teams in both indoor and beach volleyball. Her academic successes are top notch as shown by her graduating Summa Cum Laude and I couldn't be more proud of all that she has accomplished in her time at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi."

Green has also made her presence known outside of the volleyball court, volunteering her time for numerous community service projects including; New Century Hospice, Islander Volleyball Clinics, Move-In days and animal shelters.

2020 will serve as the 30th year in which the NCAA Woman of the Year Award will be given. From the Top 30, the Woman of the Year selection committee will determine the top three honorees in each division and announce nine finalists. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then will choose the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year, who will be named this fall.
