Steve Greene has announced the additions of two student-athletes to the 2020 Islanders roster.
Montez Uigaese (Long Beach, Calif.) joins the Islanders from Fresno State University and
Madeline Harkey (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) will come to the Island from Esperanza High School.
Uigaese, a 6'2" middle/outside hitter spent three seasons playing at Fresno State University. During her sophomore season, she earned MWC Player of the Week honors and garnered Academic All-Mountain West accolades during her senior season. In 2018, the Bulldogs finished second in the conference and qualified for the NIVC Postseason Tournament. A three-year varsity letterwinner at St. Anthony High School, Uigaese was the 2015 El-Camino League MVP and was a first team all-conference and All-CIF Southern Region first team performer.
"Montez has proven to be a terminal attacker and blocker from every position on the court," said Greene. "She has started at three different positions in college and her versatility, experience, and knowledge of the game will be a huge asset to our team."
Harkey is a 5'9" setter and was a two-time All-Crestview League performer at Esperanza High School. She played for head coach Isaac Owens and led her team to a ninth-place finish at state during her senior season. That year, Harkey's team also won the CIF Southern Section Division II title. She played club volleyball for Over the Top VBC, Goldenwest VBC and A4 VBC.
"Maddie sees and understands the game at a very high level," Greene said. "She can run a full offense from anywhere on the court. Her competitiveness and calm leadership will help her assimilate to the college game right away."
