CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi head volleyball coach
Steve Greene has announced the hiring of
Alexis Crimes as the Islanders assistant coach. Crimes will start on the Island on Aug. 1.
"
Alexis Crimes comes to the island with a great deal of experience from her outstanding collegiate career, playing at the highest level professionally and with the USA National Team," said Greene. "She will provide an amazing example for our student athletes while they are here as well as how to transition to a successful career. She is very humble and has a high level of character and I am thrilled to have her here working with the Islanders."
Crimes, who was an alternate on the United State's 2016 Olympic team in Rio de Janeiro, brings a wealth of volleyball knowledge to the Island. A four-year American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America performer at Long Beach State, Grimes has been a member of the Team USA's national team pool since 2008. She enjoyed a nine-year professional career from 2009-17. She started her career in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, and made stops in Vienna, Austria, Bielsko-Biala, Poland, Bergamo, Italy, Azerbaijan, Baku and Sarriyer, Turkey.
In 2007, she graduated from Long Beach State with her degree in criminal justice. She completed her master's at LBSU in 2010 and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Crimes has also spent time as a motivational speaker and worked with Operation Jumpstart as a mentor to assist high school students. In 2008, she trained with Team USA at the Colorado Springs Training Center and continued to work with the program from 2009-12 in Anaheim, Calif.
The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native helped lead Long Beach State to four-consecutive NCAA Tournaments. She was a Big-West first team performer all four years and was the conference's co-Player of the Year as a junior after being named the AVCA West Freshman of the Year in 2004. Crimes still holds the 49ers' career record for block assists with 494. She ranks second in total blocks with 598, third in career kills with 1,756, fourth in solo blocks with 104 and is fifth in attack percentage at .364. During her junior year, she set the school's single match record by hitting .636 against CSU Northridge, recording 21 kills on 33 attempts with no errors.
