Islanders Add Justin Wong to Volleyball Staff

Wong arrives with over a decade of experience

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball coach Steve Greene has announced the hiring of Justin Wong as an assistant coach for the Islanders program.

Wong brings nearly a decade of collegiate coaching experience and over 15 years at the club level. The new assistant joins the Islanders out of Georgetown University, where he has served as the assistant coach since 2015.

In the two years prior to his time in Washington, D.C., Wong was a member of the Delaware State coaching staff. During his time with Delaware State, Wong was promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach.

Wong started his collegiate coaching career at Miami (OH), where he served as a volunteer assistant while simultaneously earning his Master of Science in Sport Studies. Following the two year stint at Miami, Wong helped guide Ohio University to its ninth Mid American Conference title in 10 seasons during the 2012 campaign.

Throughout his career, Wong has been praised for his performance on and off the court.

"It was such a privilege to have Justin on my staff at Georgetown," said former Hoyas head coach Arlisa Williams. "He is a hardworking and extremely loyal individual. He is even keeled even during stressful times and works hard to connect with the players. But more than anything, what makes Justin a great assistant is that he is a great person. I absolutely adore him and will miss him greatly."

Former Ohio head coach and current Marquette skipper Ryan Theis shared a similar opinion of Wong.

"Justin is extremely loyal, hard working and great it the gym. Players love being around him and playing for him. He possesses all the qualities essential to being a great assistant coach."

Wong earned his bachelor degree from The Ohio State University in 2004. He began his duties on the Island on Wednesday.
