Defend the Dugan on Wednesday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Coming off an impressive 60-51 victory over Northwestern State on Saturday, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team returns to the Dugan Wellness Center, the first of its two Southland Conference games on campus in 2016-17, to take on Southeastern Louisiana at 7 p.m. Wednesday night.

A&M-Corpus Christi (5-10, 1-3) is tied with four teams in the Southland Conference standings, including the Lady Lions (3-12, 1-3).

LOOKING BACK
Last time out, the Islanders used a barrage of 3-pointers to overwhelm a four-quarter comeback attempt by Northwestern State. Brittany Mbamalu sunk a season-high five 3-pointers to lead the team with 15 points.

The Lady Demons battled back from a 12-point deficit to cut the Islanders' lead to one in the fourth quarter. Following baskets from Emma Young and Mbamalu, the Blue and Green went 9-of-12 from the stripe to hold off the late surge, including 4-for-4 by Erin Willis.

DAVIS' DUE CREDIT
>> Camesha Davis' monster season continues to get better and better after she pulled down her 600th career rebound against Northwestern State, becoming just the fifth player in program history to cross that mark.
>> Davis also rejected four shots against the Lady Demons to take her career tally to 92 and third all time. She needs just eight more blocks to become the third player in Islanders history to reach 100 swats in a career.
>> The DeSoto native has been a powerhouse this year for the Blue and Green, leading the Islanders in scoring, rebounding, blocks and field-goal percentage.

MBAMALU DROPPING BOMBS
>> Brittany Mbamalu has nestled back into her comfort zone outside the arc this season, averaging 2.1 3-pointers per game.
>> The guard out of Houston continues to inch her way towards the all-time 3-point record set by Nicole Duncan (2003-09), She needs 32 makes from outside to reach 210.
>> Mbamalu is connecting on 29-percent of her attempts from downtown this season and is a 35-percent career shooter from the perimeter.

SERIES HISTORY
>> For the second straight game, the Islanders will have a chance to extend a series lead to 8-5 with a win.
>> The two ball clubs have met 11 times in Southland Conference action with the first contest taking place back in 2001.
>> Both teams had their share of success through the initial meetings, but A&M-Corpus Christi has been on a roll as of late winning the last three outings.
>> Davis and Mbamalu played a major role in the 2016 edition, picking up key baskets in the final minutes to win 69-67 in the Dugan.

SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN LA.
>> Southeastern Louisiana enters Wednesday's contest at 3-12 under first-year head coach Errol Gauff.
>> This season, the Lady Lions struggled through three of the first four games of the Southland season, falling by an average of 17 points. The lone bright spot was an 87-71 victory on the road at Houston Baptist last Thursday. The win snapped an eight-game losing streak.
>> Guard Taylin Underwood finished as the runner-up in Southland Conference Player of the Week voting. Last week, Underwood averaged 31.3 points per game, including a 45-point outing against Houston Baptist.
>> Underwood is averaging 18.1 points per game, the only player over 10 points per game, while Tyler Morrison has had the lion's share of rebounding at 6.3 per game.
