Women's Basketball Secures Five Selections to Southland Conference All-Academic Team

FRISCO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team earned some recognition for its work in the classroom throughout the 2025-26 season on Friday morning, as it was announced by the league office that Asha Walker, Bruna Anguera, K'Nari Holliday, Marissa Shelton and Tamar voor de Poort were selected to the Southland Conference's All Academic Team.
 
To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, players must have posted a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games during the most recent season. In totality, the women's basketball team finished with a team GPA of 3.38 during the most recent semester.
 
Walker, a native of Fremont, California, finished her first year on the Island with a cumulative GPA of 3.73 while majoring in University Studies and minoring in Marketing. The guard played in all 29 of the Islanders' games this past season and started 13 of them, averaging 7.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game while also finishing sixth in the conference in made three pointers, tied for sixth in threes per game and 10th in three-point percentage with a mark of 35.8 percent. She also set a new career high in points scored for a single game, pouring in 27 while knocking down five triples in a win over Incarnate Word on January 29.
 
Anguera, from El Morell, Spain, completed her fourth and final year on campus with a perfect 4.00 GPA, graduating with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology. The center played in 23 games in total, recording 24 points, 44 rebounds, eight assists, five blocks and three steals in a reserve role. Anguera finished her career with the Islanders with 279 points and 293 rebounds in 112 games while helping the team reach its first-ever NCAA Tournament back in the 2023-24 season.
 
Holliday, a product of Apopka, Florida, graduated with her degree in University Studies while finishing with a cumulative GPA of 3.42. She played in 27 games in her lone season with the program and started 17, averaging 7.7 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds in her 19.9 minutes per game. She finished the year as the Southland Conference's leader in field goal percentage at a mark of 55.8 percent while also finishing seventh in the league in blocks per game and 10th in rebounds per game. Holliday also recorded the 1000th point of her collegiate career in the blue and green, doing so in a game against East Texas A&M on February 26.
 
Shelton, a native of South Bend, Indiana, finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.46 and graduated with her degree in University Studies. In her only season with the team, she played in all 29 games and started 23, averaging 8.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 29.6 minutes per game. She finished 16th in the Southland Conference in three-point percentage at a mark of 33.1 percent, and she managed to set a new single-game career high with 21 points in a win over UIW on January 29, playing all 40 minutes while shooting 6-16 from the field and 8-12 from the free throw line.
 
voor de Poort, from Doetinchem, Netherlands, graduated with her degree in University Studies and finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.33. She appeared in 19 games off the bench in her first and only season on the Island, totaling five points and eight rebounds in 69 minutes.
