CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team was unable to secure a win in its final home game of the 2025-26 season on Saturday afternoon, failing to find a spark offensively and dropping to Northwestern State on Senior Day by a final score of 63-35.
The Islanders (5-22, 4-17 SLC) were held in check by a stout Lady Demons (16-13, 13-8 SLC) defense out of the gates on Saturday, totaling 16 points in the first half on 7-26 shooting overall. During this stretch, though, they were able to match the intensity of Northwestern State on that end, surrendering just 21 points of their own to go into the break trailing by only five. This included an incredible effort in the second quarter, where they held the visitors to seven points on 2-11 shooting while forcing seven turnovers, which helped keep themselves within striking distance.
Unfortunately for A&M-Corpus Christi, the Lady Demons' offense would finally catch fire out of halftime, scoring 26 points to exceed their total of 21 from the entire first 20 minutes of the game. The Islanders got two of the first three baskets of the half on back-to-back two pointers from senior
Samora Watson, at which point Northwestern State ripped off a 12-0 run to balloon what had been just a four-point deficit up to 16. This helped to neutralize the best offensive quarter of the day for the Islanders, as they scored 14 behind six from graduate
Chelsea Wooten and four from Watson. Once the fourth started, this outburst from the Lady Demons would continue, placing A&M-Corpus Christi in a hole that proved to be too big to come back from.
Individually, the team was led in scoring by Wooten and senior
K'Nari Holliday, with both totaling eight points on the day. In addition to this, Wooten also managed to reach a significant milestone on the day, making her way into the program's all-time top 10 for three pointers made in a single season with her 56th of the year. Beyond these two, redshirt senior
Trinity Slocum paced all Islanders in assists with four and tied for the team lead in rebounds with five, a mark matched only by redshirt sophomore
Torie Sevier.
After the game, the Islanders held a ceremony honoring the seven outgoing players on their roster, with those being Wooten, Watson, Slocum, Holliday,
Tamar voor de Poort,
Marissa Shelton and
Bruna Anguera. This group will play in their last collegiate game on Monday at 5 p.m., when the team heads north to close out the 2025-26 season with a matchup against HCU.
