CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team gives the home fans a sneak preview of the season to come this week, hosting Texas A&M International for an exhibition game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in its final tuneup before starting the 2026-27 campaign.
The Islanders start the second year of the
Toyelle Wilson era with a cast of fresh faces, bringing in 10 newcomers to their roster of 14 players for this year with six transfers and four freshmen. The two main returners that contributed to the team last season are senior
Asha Walker and junior
Rayna Williams, with Walker coming back after drilling 59 three pointers – the eighth-most in a single season in program history – and Williams returning after playing in all 29 games and averaging 4.5 points and 5.6 rebounds down low. Junior
Naiya Carney and senior
Valeria Martínez will also be coming back after missing the entirety of 2025-26 due to injury, marking the latter's debut with the team and the former's return to action for the first time since March 5, 2025.
A&M-Corpus Christi's game against the Dustdevils represents the team's final time on the floor before they get the season officially underway on November 4, when they host Our Lady of the Lake at the Dugan Wellness Center. The Islanders then embark on a tough three-game road trip with stops at Baylor, Texas State and Houston before returning for two more home contests against West Florida on November 22 and St. Mary's two days later.
