REYKJAVÍK, Iceland – After wrapping up her time with the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball program back in March,
Nabaweeyah McGill is now set to continue her career professionally after signing a contract to play overseas for Icelandic club Ármann.
Ármann, which was founded in 1953, is located in Iceland's capital city of Reykjavík. The team is currently a member of Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the highest level of professional women's basketball in the country, gaining promotion to the league back in March for the first time in 65 years.
McGill concluded her stint with the Islanders with 123 total games played and 17 starts over her five seasons, averaging 5.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. The Tampa, Florida native goes down as the most fearsome rim protector in A&M-Corpus Christi history, holding the all-time program record with 133 total blocked shots for her career while also leading the Islanders in blocks per game in three different seasons and finishing at the top of the Southland Conference in the category in each of her final two.
In addition to her individual accolades, McGill featured prominently in one of the most successful stretches in the history of the women's basketball program, with the Islanders recording an overall record of 82-61 and a winning percentage of .573 during her five-year tenure. The team also won its first Southland Conference Tournament championship and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever in 2023-24 and earned a berth in the WNIT in 2022-23 after taking home the SLC regular season championship.
With McGill's commitment, the Islanders have now had a player continue their career professionally for the second consecutive year. Most recently,
Alecia Westbrook signed on to play for Iraklis WBC in Greece last June, where she would go on to average 8.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game across 15 contests.
