FRISCO, Texas – Sophomore
Virginia Van Der Werff earned her fifth Southland Conference Setter of the Week nod this year as the conference office announced the weekly recipients for the final time of the 2025 season.
Van Der Werff is now a five-time SLC Setter of the Week, the most honored setter and overall player within the league. The accolade comes before the SLC Tournament begins this Friday where the Islanders will be seeded 6
th and pitted against No. 3 Southeastern.
Van Der Werff earned this one by averaging 12.57 assists/set in the final week of regular season, running the Islanders to a 2-0 weekend that saw a .239 team hitting. She dished out a total of 88 assists through seven sets and recorded a double-double of 50 assists and 11 digs at East Texas A&M. The sophomore tallied 16 digs, five kills, and two service aces through the two matches.
"Virginia has continued to improve throughout the season," said head coach
Steve Greene. "She is seeing the game better each week and continues to utilize all her teammates' strengths and help them improve as well."
The Islanders will begin their run to defend their tournament title Friday at 10 a.m. against the Lady Lions.
