Van Der Werff & Jaeger Earn SLC Player of the Week Nods

FRISCO, Texas – Both repeating their respective awards, sophomore Virginia Van Der Werff and redshirt Brooklyn Jaeger each came away with a Southland Conference Player of the Week nod.

Van Der Werff earned her third Setter of the Week accolade this year. After becoming the first player in the league to repeat a weekly award for 2025, she is now the first to three-peat an award this season. For Jaeger, she notched her second Defensive Player of the Week award after her first came back on Sept. 15.

Van Der Werff tallied 80 assists through two matches for an average of 11.43/set. She leads the league overall with a season average of 9.36 assists/set. Van der Werff ran the Islanders to a .309 team hitting percentage on the week while adding 11 digs, 3 kills, and 3 aces.

"Virginia really showcased her teammates this week by spreading the offense and helping everyone to find success," said head coach Steve Greene. "She has been working diligently to continue to improve as she is reaching towards lofty yet very attainable goals for herself and our team."

Jaeger averaged 5.71 digs/set on the week and now leads the league with a total mark of 5.36/set in conference play. She recorded her 7th 20-dig performance of the year and third in the last five matches with 22 in a three-set match against Northwestern State.

"Brooklyn had an outstanding week defensively with not only making outstanding plays but also with her quality of touches. She made her teammates better this week with her play and her confidence is really growing and this honor will boost that even further," said Greene.
