CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball returned to the win column in emphatic fashion, downing Houston Baptist in a 3-0 triumph and punctuating senior day festivities Saturday afternoon inside Dugan Wellness Center.
Both squads traded points in the opening set until the Islanders gained the 14-9 upper hand thanks to a decisive 6-0 spree that included four of the home club's match-high 20 first-set kills. HBU played catch up the rest of the way before a slam from
Rachel Young handed the Islanders match point and a 25-19 win.
Another pair of early runs helped the Islanders control the second as a
Hannah Froeschl's kill to make it 10-9 in the home club's favor signaled the final lead switch of the set. HBU hung tough, drawing within one on four separate occasions as the Islanders stayed just out of reach and claimed the second thanks again to a Young kill.
The third proved the closest margin of the match, as HBU held a 13-11 favor at the midway point before the Islanders unleashed yet another lethal 6-0 outburst, all resulting in kills, to turn the tide for a 17-13 home lead.
HBU managed to claw its way back and took advantage of Islander errors to even it on three occasions late, but A&M-Corpus Christi clinched three of the final four points to earn its fourth shutout of the season.

Chloe Simon,
Kaylee Payne,
Hannah Froeschl, and
Liza Buzhanski in a pregame ceremony.
Simon had herself a successful senior day, posting a double double with 12 kills and 12 digs while Young carried the offensive effort with 13 kills.
A&M-Corpus Christi begins a three-game road swing with a midweek stop at Texas on Wednesday, March 10 at 4 p.m.
