THIBODAUX, La. – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball began its road trip with an emphatic 3-0 sweep over Nicholls in a Southland showdown Thursday night inside David R. Stopher Gymnasium.
Coming out of the gate hitting at a 0.522 clip, A&M-Corpus Christi and Nicholls played close until a
Chloe Simon kill combined with a Colonel attack error broke the final tie and set the Islanders on the win path. The Islanders ballooned their lead to a six-point, 22-16 advantage as both squads traded points down the stretch before a pair of Nicholls errors buried the 25-19 win for the visitors.
A&M-Corpus Christi continued to dominate, helped by early Colonel miscues and a trio of Simon kills to build a sizable 13-6 edge. The Colonels answered with its own 9-2 outburst to level the field at 15-all, but the Islanders ensuing 7-1 stretch proved the difference in a 25-19 nip-and-tuck affair.
It proved to be all Islanders in the final stanza, as an overpowering offense boosted the visiting club to a 18-8 advantage as they ran away with a third-straight 25-19 set decision and posted its fifth sweep of the spring.
The Islanders limited Nicholls to a 0.167 attack percentage and forced 17 errors.
Simon's 10 kills marked her eighth double-figure performance of the season while
Carissa Barnes totaled 17 digs.
A&M-Corpus Christi continues its Southland road trip with a stop at New Orleans at Saturday, March 20 at 12 p.m.
