Islanders Down UCA for Third-Straight Victory

CONWAY, Ark. – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi volleyball extended its win streak to three matches behind a sweep over Central Arkansas Saturday afternoon at the Prince Center.

Chloe Simon (16) and Rachel Young (13) finished with double-figure kills in a balanced offense that saw four different players tally eight-plus kills. Carissa Barnes continued to shine on defense with a team-high 22 digs and two aces.

In an opening set that saw neither club lead by more then four points, it would be the Islanders that delivered the final blow as the visiting squad tallied four of the final five points ending with a pair of Simon kills to pull away for the 25-20 set win.

The Islanders followed a similar script in another tightly-contested set, trading leads until four-straight A&M-Corpus Christi kills busted open the set as a 6-0 spurt turned the tide for a 22-15 edge. From there, the Islanders quickly closed the set behind a balanced attack and kills from Montez Uigaese, Kylie Filipiak, and Rachel Young to claim the commanding 2-0 match advantage.

Moving to the final act, UCA took the first four points to put the Islanders in one of its largest deficits of the match but A&M-Corpus Christi clawed its way back and ripped three-straight points to regain the 12-10 lead. UCA evened the match twice before Simon once again made an impact when it counted most with back-to-back kills sparking a decisive 4-0 run that handed the Islanders the lead for good.

The Islanders dominated across the board, tallying 54 kills for an impressive .331 attack percentage while holding UCA to 30 kills and a .143 average.
