Peter Nagy Reaches #409 ATP Pro Tour -Â Wins Clinching Davis Cup Match

One of the great Islanders ever and great source of pride for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is Peter Nagy. Peter led the Islanders to the NCAA Tournament THREE TIMES as a team. One of the few Islander athletes to go to three NCAA championships - all playing #1 singles! Peter also advanced to the NCAA championships twice in singles.Â
Peter continued to shine after college as he turned professional and reached #409 on the ATP Pro Tour. Peter won four professional futures tournaments. He is currently still competing on the professional tour and improving every day!Â
Perhaps the greatest accomplishment for Peter was his heroics in Davis Cup for Hungary. Peter won the final clinching match for Hungary to advance on three occasions! Peter beat Dudi Sela, ranked #81 on ATP Pro Tour in five sets! A year later, Peter again won the clinching match for Hungary, this time in doubles against two opponents both ranked top 50 ATP! Peter beat two other opponents in Davis cup ranked top 200 ATP!
Peter was one of the hardest working, intense competitors and best team guys I have ever coached in 27 years. His character and fighting spirit were simply rare and special! Below is a quote from Peter that embodies the spirit of Islander athletics and Islanders tennis so well...
"Dedication, sacrifice and commitment to be the hardest worker is what got me these Davis Cup results. I learned to compete like a gladiator through good days and bad. All these values and lessons I learned from my 4 years as an Islander. Islanders fight always! Islanders Family Always!" ~ Peter Nagy
