Barnes to compete at the US National Team Open Tryouts

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi volleyball student-athlete Carissa Barnes will be participating in the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts taking place Feb. 21-23 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Barnes will be one of 214 athletes from 94 colleges competing for a spot on the U.S. Women's National Team and U.S. Collegiate National Team program. Barnes was named the Southland Conference's Freshman of the Year and also garnered second-team honors from the league. The Weatherford, Texas, native had double-figure digs in 30 matches, going over 20 digs in 14 matches and recording a pair of 30+ dig performances including a career high 31 against Northwestern State. She had 48 service aces in her freshman campaign, ranking in a tie for fifth in the Islander single-season record book. Barnes will be in the "White" wave of athletes competing on Friday.

Barnes will be one of 47 liberos in attendance at the tryout that will be led by U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame member Karch Kiraly and the U.S. Women's National Team staff.

On Friday, Feb. 21, USA Volleyball will host a live stream of the tryout starting at 3 p.m. CST that can be found HERE. Each day USA Volleyball will also produce photo galleries athlete interactions and interviews on their Facebook and Instagram accounts.
