- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi volleyball team fell to UTRGV, 3-2, on Wednesday evening at the Dugan Wellness Center in the team's 2019 home opener.
- The Islanders fall to 1-3 overall while UTRGV improved to 3-1.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won the first set, 25-18, and also too the third, 26-24.
- UTRGV was able to win the second, 25-19, and fourth sets, 25-20, to force a decisive fifth set. The Vaqueros won, 15-10, to take the match.
- The match was the first installment of the
South Texas Showdown, presented by
NavyArmy Community Credit Union. The two teams will meet in Edinburg, Texas, on Tuesday, Sept. 17, for the second match.

Rachel Young had a team-high 13 kills to go along with three blocks and a dig defensively. She hit .257 for the match.

Madison Green had a match-high 49 assists with nine kills and eight digs.

Kylie Filipiak finished the evening with 12 kills, hitting .267. She had three digs, one assist and one block.

Chloe Simon was the third Islander in double-figures with kills, adding 11 to go along with six digs and two blocks. She hit .267 with just three attacking errors.

Carissa Barnes recorded 27 digs defensively and had a career-high four service aces. She added four assists and one kill.

Eloise van Velthooven had seven kills, two blocks and a dig in five sets.

Sam Dumity had five kills, two digs, a block and a service ace.
- The Islanders hit .210 as a team with their best set coming in the first with 15 kills on just five errors for a .278 attack percentage.
