Women's tennis falls to Sam Houston State

The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi women's tennis team fell to Sam Houston State, 4-2, on Thursday during the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament at the Thomas J Henry Tennis Center.
- The Islanders finish the 2019 season at 13-8 overall while the Bearkats improved to 14-7.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi got off to a strong start, winning the double's point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3.
- Camille Townsend paired with Mariya Shumeika at the No. 1 position to win, 6-2.
- Carolina Bulatovic and Maria Maldonado fought off a tie-break at No. 3 to win, 7-6, giving the Islanders the double's point.
- Townsend picked up a tough three-set win at No. 2 singles. After winning the first set and falling in a tough second set, the freshman came back to take the third set, 6-1, for the single's point.
- Maria Maldonado came back form being a set down to force a third set at No. 6 singles.
- Freshman Shumeika also came back from a set down to force a third set at No. 4 singles.
- Prior to the match, the Islanders received their All-Southland awards including Newcomer of the Year Kei Kato.
