Women's Tennis Blanks No. 2 Northwestern State, Sets Up Title Rematch with SFA

BEAUMONT, Texas – The third-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team delivered a commanding performance in the Southland Conference semifinals Monday afternoon, sweeping No. 2 Northwestern State 4-0 at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center to advance to the championship match.

The Islanders will face No. 4 seed SFA on Tuesday with the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament on the line following today's dominant performance. The decisive victory sets up a championship showdown in reminiscent fashion against SFA as a rematch of last year's title contest in which the Ladyjacks won, giving A&M-Corpus Christi the chip they need for vengeance this season.

A&M-Corpus Christi set the tone early by securing the doubles point with wins on courts two and one. Adriana Jimenez Casado and Viktoriia Sedova handled their matchup 6-2 on court two, before Yana Mykytyn and Kseniya Ramanouskaya sealed the point with a 6-2 victory on court one.

Northwestern State claimed court three in doubles, but the Islanders' pair of decisive wins gave them a 1-0 edge heading into singles. From there, A&M-Corpus Christi took control.

Ramanouskaya extended the lead to 2-0 with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win on court three, and Mykytyn followed shortly after with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court two to put the Islanders firmly in command at 3-0. Josefa Fuenzalida clinched the match on court four, rolling to a 6-2, 6-1 win to secure the 4-0 sweep and send A&M-Corpus Christi into the title match.

The Islanders will be going for their eight overall tournament title and eighth trip back to the NCAA Tournament, the first since they made history by making the NCAAs four years in a row from 2021-2024.

The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
