Islanders Tennis Fights to Extend History with SLC Championships this Week

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis team will look to add to the historic marks both programs have left on the conference when the 2026 SLC Championships begin this week in Beaumont.
 
Both teams will enter as the No. 3 seeds in their respective brackets, with the women getting started first Sunday at 10 a.m. against No. 6 Southeastern. The winner will advance to Monday's 2 p.m. semifinal match against No. 2 Northwestern State/No. 7 UTRGV for a spot in Tuesday's championship set for 2 p.m.
 
The men get underway Monday at 10 a.m. and face No. 2 UTRGV in the four-team bracket, with the winner moving on to the finals against the winner of No. 1 UIW/No. 4 Lamar.
 
The Islanders Tennis program has seen 16 consecutive championship seasons and will be looking to make it 17 with the conference tournament beginning. In total, the Islanders have amassed an astounding 37 championships in the program's history.
 
They will both be looking to get back to the NCAA Tournament, which the teams have been to a record-breaking 17 times. Both teams hold conference tennis records in regular season titles, conference tournament titles, and NCAA tournament appearances. The men are one of the winningest teams in the Southland Conference, across all sports, with 23 total championships including 10 tournament titles. The women have 14 championships with seven trips to the NCAAs.
 
The women will put their youth to the test for the second year in a row, with a lineup full of underclassmen. However, they will lean on All-Conference First Team selections in Yana Mykytyn and Kseniya Ramanouskaya who were both recognized for their singles performances at courts two and three, respectively. They also pair together at No. 1 doubles.
 
The men have the SLC Newcomer of the Year in Ethan Dasset, who swept the postseason awards also being named to the First Team for No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles with partner Josef Zapletal. Etienne Marty joined him on the First Team at No. 3 singles with the duo of Matthieu Coignet/Mikel Garmendia being honored at No. 1 doubles on the Second Team.
