CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams will host UT-Rio Grande Valley on Monday, Feb. 4 in the first installment of the
South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union. Both matches will start at 2 p.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center on the Momentum campus.
The winner of each match will receive three points for their institutions in the yearly rivalry standings between the two schools. The return trip in Edinburg, Texas, will take place on March 13.
The Islander men are 6-1 on the season with victories over Prairie View A&M and Trinity. The A&M-Corpus Christi women are 3-0 after victories over Prairie View A&M and Trinity.
As a program, the Islanders have reached 10 NCAA Tournaments in program history and captured 22 Southland titles in the last 12 years. The men are seeking the program's eighth NCAA Tournament appearance. The women have won the past three Southland Conference titles.
The Islander men will head to Houston to face Rice University on Friday, Feb. 8, followed by a neutral site match on Saturday, Feb. 9, against Elon. The A&M-Coprus Christi women will travel to Dallas to take on SMU on Sunday, Feb. 10, at 4 p.m.
