HOUSTON, Texas -- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi indoor track & field program sought to divide and conquer this weekend as the majority of the team traveled east for the Houston Invitational while four multi-event athletes road-tripped north back to Lubbock, Texas, for Texas Tech Classic. All-in-all, the Islanders composed a number of notable performances across both competitions, including one first-place finish (
Isaac Vargas in the 5,000m) and nine other top five placements.
At the Texas Tech Classic, senior
Bjoern Adden put together a strong showing in the heptathlon, closing the competition in third place. Meanwhile, fellow senior
Sashane Hanson participated in her first-ever multi-event, grabbing fifth place in the the pentathlon. At Saturday's Houston Invitational, strong performers included: freshman
Daniel Armstrong's fifth-place finish in the 60m hurdles (8.20s); freshman
Dubem Nwuchukwu's fifth-place sprint in the 400m (21.75s); junior
Oscar Leyva's fifth-place finish in the mile run (4:16.77); freshman Juan Salinas' third-place run in the 5,000m (15:52.55); freshman
Zachary Seaman's third-place leap in the high jump (2.05m); senior
Benjamin Clark's fourth-place finish in shot put (16.02m); and sophomore
Valentina Campos' third-place run in the 5,000m (17:20.53).
