Islanders sign No. 108 junior in world

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Director of Tennis Steve Moore has announced the signing of Ryuya Ata to a National Letter of Intent. Ata will be a freshman this fall at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

"We are extremely honored and excited Ryuya Ata has committed to play for the Islanders," said Moore. "I love Ryuya's values of hard work, discipline and respect and his drive and motivation to play professional tennis. I loved meeting his coach and father and felt we shared the same values about hard work, team and respect. We feel Ryuya has the work ethic and talent to develop like Peter Nagy (409 ATP) and have a successful professional career. We feel the Islanders' system of hard work and discipline can help Ryuya develop into a pro like Peter."

Ata was the No. 2 ranked junior player in Japan and is currently No. 108 in the world junior rankings. The native of Fukuoka, Japan, played in the Australian Open Junior Grand Slam this past year. He chose the Island University over countless high ranked schools.
