- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi volleyball team defeated Nicholls State, 3-0, on Thursday evening at the Dugan Wellness Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
-Â It was the Southland Conference season opener for both teams. The Islanders move to 2-12 overall and 1-0 in Southland action. The Colonels fall to 2-12 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Madison Green led the way with 18 assists, nine kills, eight digs, two block assists and two service aces.
- The Islanders have now won four-consecutive Southland Conference openers and have won their last seven home conference opening matches.
Key Islander Statistics
- A&M-Corpus Christi won all three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-15 and 25-23.
- The Islanders' six total blocks were a season high.
- The team's 11 service aces were also the most this year. The last time the Islanders went over 10 service aces was back on Sept. 5, 2017, against UTRGV with 14.
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's best set came in the second, hitting .423 with just three errors. Defensively, they held Nicholls to a .094 attack percentage.

Kylie Filipiak tied Green with a team-best nine kills. The freshman hit .471 with just one attacking error while contributing a pair of blocks.

Rachel Young had six kills, two blocks and an assist.

Chloe Simon added nine digs, five kills, a service ace and an assist in the winning effort.

Sam Dumity had five kills, four blocks, two assists, two digs and a service ace.

Julia Carter made her Islander debut with four kills, She added three digs, two service aces, one block and one assist.

Jenna Lyons had a career-high four service aces and added a pair of kills. It was the most aces by an Islander player this season.

Kaylee Payne each had seven digs defensively.

Liza Buzhanski had five digs.

Mackenzie Coates contributed eight assists with three digs defensively.
Key Islander Sequences
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi trailed Nicholls early in the second set, 3-2. but an 8-0 run with Green at the service line put the set out of reach early. Young tied the match, 3-3, on a kill off a Green assist. After that, Green controlled the action with her serves. She helped orchestrate a dominating run by the Islanders that included a pair of kills from Filipiak, key blocks from Dumity and Filipiak and a service ace to make it 10-3 A&M-Corpus Christi. Green assisted on four of the points and the Colonels had three attacking errors and had to use a timeout.
- In the third, the Islanders trailed 7-4 after an attacking error. But the service game again came in key. Nicholls lost possession with a service error. Lyons stepped up and promptly ran off three-straight service aces to put the Islanders out in front, 8-7.

The Islanders take on the University of New Orleans at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Dugan Wellness Center. Saturday is Club Team Day. All kids in youth jerseys are free! All club team members get to join the Islanders for the official team tunnel!
