CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis remains on the road, traveling to Natchitoches, Louisiana for a Saturday Showdown with Northwestern State. The match is slated for 12 p.m.
"We have such great respect for Northwestern State," said Coach Steve Moore, "and the character and culture of their program year in and year out. They are always at the top competing for a title, and have such great pride and tradition. This is the way a rivalry should be - high achieving teams, intensity, but always character and respect. That's what makes this rivalry special. I respect Northwestern State so much, because they have character players who always bring it. They play hard, but clean."
The Islanders and Northwestern State have great tradition, meeting four times in the Southland Conference finals. The series is currently split 2-2. Also, Islanders associate head coach Olga Bazhanova was the former head coach at Northwestern State, leading the Lady Demons to a Southland Conference Title and NCAA Tournament. She led the team to the NCAA Tournament as a head coach, assistant coach, and #1 player.
With Thursday's 7-0 win over Central Arkansas, the women improved to 9-1 in Southland Conference play this season, and 37-2 over the last three years. Currently one match behind McNeese for first place, a victory tomorrow would secure the Islander women a share of the 2018 SLC regular season title.
Saturday's road match against Northwestern State marks the final match before the Southland Conference tournament. Be sure to support your Islanders, and watch as the women look for their third-straight SLC Title with a victory over the Lady Demons!
