CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis returned home today, hosting UTRGV in the latest installment of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union. The Islanders battled early, earning a hard-fought doubles point to start the match. Carrying that momentum into singles play, the women continued to roll on their way to a 5-2 victory over the Vaqueros.
"I'm so proud of the way our girls are fighting," said Coach Steve Moore. "I'm proud of the way they are listening and being tough. This is the part of the year that we've trained for since September. It's all about fitness and mental toughness. This was a tremendous effort from our girls, as UTRGV has built a very high-level team. Today was a flat-out battle, just like it was down there. I'm really, really, really proud of the character of this time."
Today's victory over UTRGV tallies 392 career wins for Coach Steve Moore as a Division 1 Head Coach. With that, he approaches the elite milestone of 400 career wins at that level.
