CYPRESS, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi ended day one of the HBU Husky Intercollegiate on good terms this Monday, finishing the afternoon in third place with a team stroke total of 618.
After collecting five birdies in her second round, sophomore
Autumn Bynum currently sits in a team-best eighth place individually, finishing her second set of 18 just one over par. Bynum finished round one of Monday's events with a 79 to put her at eight-over for the day, and just a single stroke short of fifth in the field. With a two-under showing on Tuesday, the Montgomery-native can tie the all-time personal best she set as a freshman at last year's Morehead State Challenge.
Standing in a tie for 13th,
Brooklyn Sutton and
Olivia Lowe played just two strokes behind their teammate, with the latter shooting a 77 in each of her two rounds. The pair combined for six birdies on the day, while Lowe registered her first eagle of the tournament on the ninth.Â
Junior
Alex Amos posted the best opening round for the Islanders (76) to finish the day tied for 34th, while
Dani Bergmann's 20-strokes over par has her slotted in at 41st heading into Tuesday.Â
As a team, the Blue and Green are sitting behind just Houston Baptist and Lamar for the top spot, with the two Southland rivals stuck in a tie at 29-over. At 13 strokes back, Corpus Christi will attempt to make a move on the Cardinals and hosting Huskies during round three, looking to better the season-best second place finish they completed at the UTRGV Invitational just two weeks prior.
The Islanders remain ahead of conference foes Incarnate Word, McNeese and Sam Houston State, with eight or less strokes dividing all four teams after 36 holes.
COMING UP NEXT
The Blue and Green will have a short break after Tuesday's round, next competing at the Lamar-hosted Cardinal Challenge this coming April 9-10th.
