SUGAR LAND, Texas — The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team placed 12th at the Riverbend Intercollegiate, finishing with rounds of 305, 306 and 309 for a 54-hole total of 920 (+56) on the par-72 layout at Riverbend Country Club.
A&M-Corpus Christi opened the tournament with a 305 in the first round and followed with a 306 in round two to sit in the middle of the pack entering the final day. The Islanders closed the event with a 309 in the third round to finish the tournament at 920.
Leading the Islanders was
Lucia Ramirez, who turned in the team's top individual performance with a tie for 18th place. Ramirez opened the event with an even-par 72 before shooting 76 in the second round and 75 in the final round to finish at 223 (+7) for the tournament.
Samantha Gibbs followed with a tie for 37th at 229 (+13). Gibbs carded rounds of 78 and 75 on the opening day before finishing with a 76 in the final round.
Elsa Tornvall added another top-50 finish for the Islanders, tying for 41st after posting rounds of 77, 72 and 81 to finish at 230 (+14). Tornvall's second-round 72 marked the team's best round of the tournament.
Tristan Gabbard finished tied for 64th with rounds of 78, 83 and 77, ending the tournament with a 238 (+22), while
Amber Martin placed 86th after recording rounds of 79, 87 and 88 to finish at 254 (+38).
Competing as an individual,
Carla Puente Fernandez tied for 84th place with rounds of 85, 80 and 82 to finish at 247 (+31).
The Riverbend Intercollegiate marked another stop in the Islanders' spring schedule as A&M-Corpus Christi sees just one more tournament ahead of the postseason in the April where they will look to defend their conference championship title.
