Big Conference Weekend Ahead for Islanders

Islanders Set to Host Lamar Saturday at 11 AM, SHSU Sunday at 2 PM

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis returns to the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center for a weekend filled with Southland Conference action. The weekend kicks off with tomorrow's match against Lamar, which is set to start at 11 AM. Then on Sunday, the Islanders host Sam Houston State University, with first serve at 2 PM.

These two matches will be the first Southland Conference home matches for the Islanders this season. Throughout the last two years, the women have gone 28-1 in conference play, are back-to-back regular season and SLC Tournament champions, and have been to two consecutive NCAA Tournaments.

"We're so excited for our first home conference matches," said Coach Steve Moore. "These girls have trained all year for these next six weeks, and I believe in them with all my heart. They've put in the hard work and paid the price to have great fitness in these long, hot, grinding conference matches. They are ready to compete. I told them they have earned the right to be confident, and to keep thinking of that and all the big moments."

"The Corpus Christi tennis community is the best in the nation," Moore continued. "We had over 100 fans at several matches already this season. We really need that type of support again this weekend to help propel these girls. Go Islanders!"

Last week, the Islanders defeated UIW 6-1 on the road to move to 1-0 in the Southland Conference. Come out and support your Islanders this weekend, and watch as they look to remain undefeated in SLC play with victories over the Cardinals and the Bearkats!
