FARMERS BRANCH, Texas - Led by an eighth place finish from sophomore
Brooklyn Sutton, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi finished 10th at this year's Bradley Spring Break Invitational, tying with South Texas Showdown Rival UTRGV.
Providing one of the best totals of the third round, Sutton shot a 76 to cap off her performance at Brookhaven Golf Course, finishing 10 over par for the invite. Sutton's stroke count of 229 ties a personal season-low and is just two strokes off the career best of 227 she shot the previous season. Her eighth place standing is the farthest she's ever finished up the leader board, as the Spring Branch-native notched her first top-10 performance of the 2017-18 campaign.
Fellow sophomore
Autumn Bynum came within four strokes of Sutton, shooting a 14 over par during the two day event, while
Dani Bergmann's 19-over was good enough to tie for 36th overall. Bergmann tallied four birdies in round three, with Bynum and Sutton combining for seven, as the trio all shot better than 20-over.
Julia Dereniwsky and
Alex Amos posted respective finishes of 70th and 77th to round out the Islander five, as the side combined for a total of 949 strokes over 54 holes. Finishing with their own count of 949, UTRGV tied the Islanders for the 10th place position, as the two split a pair of points in this year's South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union, standings.Â
The Blue and Green currently hold a two-point advantage over the Vaqueros in at 23.5-21.5. UTRGVÂ and Corpus Christi will not meet on the golf course for the remainder of the 2018 year, but still have a three-point baseball matchup to compete in at Chapman Field this March 20th.
