Box Score CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –The Islanders honored Seniors
Joseph Kilgore and
David Bloom and unsaddled the McNeese State Cowboys 82 to 70 to to help spark a run for the eighth spot in the Southland Conference Tournament.
"It's really surreal. It hasn't really hit yet," senior guard
David Bloom said. "I feel like it's really going to kick in in the next couple of days just thinking about we're never going to be back in this building again."
The team started very hot with a steal by Kilgore immediately followed by of the first monster slam dunks.
Sean Rhea,
Myles Smith, and
Kareem South backed Joe, securing the win.
KEY MOMENT/PERFORMER
Joe Kilgore started the game with a monster slam setting the tone for his team that he was coming to win the game no matter what. After the dunk, the Islanders would score three times in a row to take the lead. We would end the first half up by one point. The same happened for the second half, scoring in the second half with multiple dunks by Joe and Sean.
"I thought it was a total team effort tonight. We were able to really spread the ball around quite a bit and truthfully a lot of it starts with our defense," Head Coach
Willis Wilson said. "Joe got us off to a great start with the first play. I think that loosened him up a little bit and allowed everyone else to settle in and play with poise."
Other notable scorers in the game were from by the supporting cast backing up Joe, Sean would finish with 17 points shooting 8 for 12, including a three pointer. Myles would also score 14 points, 2 being from the three point line. Lastly Kareem would finish with 18 points, three being from the three point line.
THE NUMBERS
• The Islanders shot 49 percent from the field goal and 42 percent beyond the arc.
• Joe Kilgore scored 23 points, shooting 43 percent from field goal range.

Sean Rhea shot 66 percent and made his only three pointer of the night.

Myles Smith and
Kareem South shot a combined 62 percent from beyond the arc.
• Four of the starting five would score in double figures.
