CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf opened Monday with a great start to the Islander Classic. The women closed out day one in 2nd place at 606, sitting three shots behind St. Mary's (603.)
"I'm extremely proud of the team," said Coach Carol Blackmar, "especially how they battled all the way to the finish this afternoon. Our 2nd round score of 294 is our lowest 18-hole score of the year. It's also the first time we posted 2 subpar scores in the same round this year. It shows that we are capable of playing some really good golf, and have the talent to challenge at conference."

The women return to the Corpus Christi Country Club tomorrow morning for the second, and last, day of the Islander Classic. Hoping to ride off today's momentum, the Islanders look to climb into first place and bring home a victory in their only home event of the year.
