CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After opening their spring season at the Texas State Invitational two weeks ago, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi continues their 2018 campaign, while hosting the Islander Classic this Monday and Tuesday.
Â
The Islanders return to their home course to host this week's tournament, playing three rounds over two days at Corpus Christi Country Club. The Blue and Green will be one in a field of 11 starting this Monday, facing off with South Texas Showdown rival UTRGV, and Southland Conference opponents Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Sam Houston State and Lamar. First tee is scheduled for a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., as all golfers will embark on the par-72 course for round one of a 36-hole day.  Â
The Islanders are coming off a 14th-place finish at the Texas State Invitational earlier this month, with Corpus Christi's
Autumn Bynum and
Alex Amos each tallying a 235 stroke count over three rounds. All five of the Blue and Green's top performers would finish within the top-80 of their tournament in Kyle, Texas, and was one of 10 programs in a field of 17 to do so.
Corpus Christi posted its best finish of the season during last year's Islander Classic, coming in fourth among a field of 12. Finishing with a stroke-count of 922 over three rounds,
Dani Bergmann would lead all Islanders with a 224 to finish in a tie for fifth individually. Bynum would finish with a team-best 72 during round one of the classic, as her 226 on the week earned her a tied for seventh overall.
The Islanders have earned three top-10 finishes as a team this year, all of which occurred during the fall season. The Blue and Green will look to add a pair of points to their standings in the current South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union, as they currently trail UTRGV 18.5 to 12.5 on the season series.Â

COMING UP NEXT
The Islanders get right back to work the following week, opening up March at the UTRGVÂ Invitational in Edinburg, Texas. Corpus Christi finished seventh overall in the same invitational last season, as
Brooklyn Sutton tallied a team-best plus-22 for an 11th-place finish.
