KYLE, Texas - After finishing round one of the Texas State Invitational this Monday, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sat in 10th overall with a stroke-count of 310. The Islanders and all of their opponents continued on to their second round of 18 before some cold weather forced the field to come to the clubhouse early, before the conclusion of the day's scheduled 36 holes.
After a single round of play, sophomore
Autumn Bynum continued to represent as one of the Islanders' top performers, recording a 73 on the Plum Creek, par-71 course in Kyle, Texas. Bynum currently sits in a tie at fifth overall with Texas State's Sasikam Somboonsup and UTSA's Madison Kidd. The Montgomery-native hit a birdie on hole one in her first set of 18, along with an eagle at hole 11 during round two, before the impending weather forced play to come to an end.
Alex Amos and
Dani Bergmann would pull in the next two spots for the Blue and Green at six-over and eight-over through 18 holes respectively. Followed by
Julia Dereniwsky and
Brooklyn Sutton, the Islanders finished off the day with a 310 total, just three strokes over their best start to a tournament this season.
Coming off a ninth-place finish at the Pat Bradley, Corpus Christi is looking for its third top-10 finish of the season, while Bynum battles for her second top-five finish of the 2017-18 campaign. The Islanders will be looking to make moves up the leader board on day two, currently sitting ahead of six teams, and just a stroke away from moving into eighth as a team.Â
The remainder of round two is set to start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, immediately followed by round three. A single individual and a team champion will be recognized at the end of the tournament.
