ARLINGTON, Texas - The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi men's basketball team will head to Arlington, Texas, to play a pair of non-conference games this weekend. The Islanders open play against UT-Arlington at 7 p.m. on Friday followed by a neutral site contest against UC Davis on Saturday at 2 p.m.

HISTORY WITH UT-ARLINGTON
- Friday will be the 14th meeting between the two former Southland Conference members.
- The two teams have not met since 2012 with the Mavs holding a 7-6 all time advantage in the series.
- A&M-Corpus Christi is 4-2 against UTA at home and just 2-4 in Arlington, Texas.
- The teams met once on a neutral floor in the Southland Conference first round in Katy, Texas back on March 12, 2009, a 79-72 Islander victory.
- The Mavs have won the past two meetings and have also taken the last three-straight in Arlington.
HISTORY WITH UC DAVIS
- Saturday's game against the Aggies will be just the second meeting between the two programs. The first meeting also took place on a neutral floor.
- The Islanders beat UC Davis, 64-53, back on Dec. 17, 2005, at the St. Mary's Invitational.
LEWIS LAND

Tony Lewis became the first Islander to surpass the 20 point mark, netting 21 on a 7-for-14 shooting performance against UTRGV on Nov. 12.
- Lewis also grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds for his first official Division I double-double to go along with three blocked shots on the defensive end.
- The 6-10 forward is averaging 9.0 rebounds per game and is averaging 1.6 fouls per contest.
WAITING GAME FOR EMMANUEL IS OVER
- In three games so far for the Islanders, senior
Emmanuel Toney seems to be hitting his stride.
- Toney saw his first collegiate minutes back in 2013 but has had three of his four collegiate seasons so far been cut short due to injury.
- This year, Toney has started all three games and is averaging nearly 27.7 minutes per contest. He has scored in double figures in each of the past two games and has a 10:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
HOME SWEET ISLAND
- This year's schedule features 16 home games for the Islanders. Two will be played at the Dugan Wellness Center.
MAKE IT TWENTY
- The 2018-19 season marks the 20th season of basketball at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
- The program debuted on Nov. 22, 1999, a 71-67 victory at home over Eastern Washington.
EXPERIENCED ADDITIONS
- The Islanders brought in six new faces for the 2018-19 season, five of whom had experienced college basketball at the junior college or NCAA Division I level.
- In 2017-18, the team had four seniors, no juniors, five sophomores and seven freshmen.
- This year, the squad boasts two seniors, seven juniors, four sophomores and one freshman.
CANADA IN SOUTH TEXAS

Kareem South (Toronto),
Irshaad Hunte (Toronto) and
Jake Babic (Oakville) are all Ontario, Canada natives.
- Hunte transferred to the Island from Central Wyoming College.
- Babic sat out the 2017-18 season but played his previous three seasons at Appalachian State University.
WHAT'S COMING BACK
- From last year, A&M-Corpus Christi returns 61.1 percent of its three-point shooting.
- The Islanders also bring back 51.1 percent of their assists, 48.7 percent of their scoring and 46.6 percent of their rebounding.
- South made a team-best 40 three point buckets last year and was one of just two players to appear and start in all 29 games.
