- The Bearkats won the first set, 25-12, before the Islanders came back to win the next two sets, 25-18 and 25-23. Sam Houston won the fourth set, 25-23 and took the fifth set, 15-11.

Key Islander Sequences
- In the second set, A&M-Corpus Christi found itself down, 6-3. But the Islanders took control early and didn't look back. A quick 6-0 rally eventually turned into a stretch where A&M-Corpus Christi would outscore the Bearkats, 13-2. During the run, the Islanders got kills from four different players including three from Carter. The Bearkats also committed five attacking errors while Payne and Filipiak each notched service aces.
- The Islanders got back-to-back kills from Carter in the closing moments of the third set to make it 24-20. But Sam Houston State rallied with a 3-0 run to make it 24-23. But A&M-Corpus Christi controlled the serve on the next sequence and Carter put away her sixth kill of the set to give the Islanders the third set and a 2-1 set advantage.
