Volleyball wins Pink game in five sets over Lamar

Story Headlines
- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi volleyball team beat the Lamar University Cardinals 3-2 at the Dugan Wellness Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Thursday.
- The Islanders move to 4-5 in Southland Conference play with the win. The Cardinals fall to 3-6 in Southland Conference play and 6-14 overall.
- Kylie Filipiak finished the night hitting .480 with 13 kills, a new career high. She also added three digs and three blocks. 
- Sam Dumity ended the match with 11 kills, five digs, three blocks and two service aces. She hit .423 for the match with no errors.

Key Islander Statistics
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi took the first two sets 25-17 and 25-13 before Lamar came out strong taking the next two sets 25-14 and 25-19. The Islanders finished the match taking the fifth set 15-7.
- The Blue and Green hit .215 on the night and the team's best set came in the fifth, hitting .615 with eight kills and no attacking errors.
- Julia Carter had eight kills to go along with a block and a dig defensively.
- Madison Green ended the night with 30 assists, nine digs, six kills and a service ace.
- Rachel Young had five kills, a pair of blocks and an assist.
- Kaylee Payne added a team-high 13 digs with a pair of service aces.
- Chloe Simon had 12 digs defensively to go with a pair of blocks, two kills and an assist.
- Angel Felan had eight assists with two digs and a service ace.

Key Islander Sequence
- With an even start in the beginning of the first set, the Islanders pulled away with a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 12-7 and gain momentum to win the set, 25-17. The run started with a kill from Carter followed by a service ace from Payne and an attack error from the Cardinals. Carter went on to get two more kills for the Blue and Green.

- In the second set, the Islanders came out on top 25-13. The Blue and Green went on a 4-0 run in the middle of the set to extend their lead to 16-8. An attack error from the Cardinals started off the run before Green recorded a kill. Another attack error from Lamar and a kill from Carter ended the run. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi went on a 7-0 run to end the set. The sequence started with a kill from Filipiak before three attack errors and a ball handling error from Lamar. Felan secured set point with a service ace and another attack error from the Cardinals gave the Islanders the 25-13 set win.

- The Blue and Green finish the match strong in the 5th set. With the score tied 5-5, the Islanders took 10 of the next 12 points to secure the win. Young, Green, Dumity and Filipiak all picked up kills during the stretch. Filipiak and Dumity combined for a pair of blocks in the closing moments of the set to secure the win.
