Islanders Come In Ninth at USA Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. - On the final day of competition at the USA Intercollegiate, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi pulled out a third round score of 299 this Monday to finish ninth overall in Mobile. Sophomore Autumn Bynum turned in the top Islander performance of the weekend, while Brooklyn Sutton's third round score proved to rank second in Islander history.

Sutton posted an impressive 3-under on Monday, with five birdies on the day. Her total stroke per round for the season sits at 76.33 after the this week's opening competition, sitting a full three strokes lower than her average from the 2016-17 campaign. Sutton's third round score ties for the second-best in program history, and marks just the fifth time an Islander has gone 3-under or better all time. The sophomore finishes at 13-over for the USA Intercollegiate, trailing teammate Daniela Bergmann by just a single stroke. 

Bynum's rounds of 76, 71 and 77 tied the Montgomery native at 23rd overall at the USA Intercollegiate, with a final score of eight-over. Her final stroke total is lower than all but two finals for an individual Islander from the previous season, and two off of her career-lowest. With an average of 74.67 strokes per round, Bynum's finish is better than 3-under what she turned in during the 2016-17 campaign.

Daniela Burgmenn came in a tie for 35th over the three-day contest, posting a 228 overall and a personal weekend-best of 2-over in the second round. Olivia Lowe and Alex Amos both had their best days of the week on Monday, registering respective stroke counts of 76 and 82. 

With their ninth place finish the Islanders come in ahead of Samford, Alabama State, Lipscomb and West Florida, while Bynum's final total beats athletes from Lamar, UAB and host South Alabama.

COMING UP NEXT
The Islanders have a week until starting the two-day ORU Shootout in Tulsa, Okla., this September 25th. The Blue and Green makes its seventh consecutive appearance at Oral Roberts, finishing 11th overall in last year's tournament.
