Texas A&M-Corpus Christi dance team head coach
Melanie Lowry has announced four days of camp on the Island later this month.
The Blue and Green will hold the Islanders Dance Technique Intensive running from June 26-29 in the Fieldhouse on campus.Â
Each day will feature a different specialty with Pom skills and jump on June 26, Jazz leaps and turns on June 27, hip hop tips and tricks on June 28 and extensions and contemporary skills on June 29. The cost for a single session is $15 with a price of $50 for all four days.Â

Day1: Pom Skills and Jumps
- No dance experience needed
- Pom is designed for the dancer who is interested in combining dance skills with energy and enthusiasm. Each class begins with a warm-up and stretching section to improve flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. This class introduces pom movements and terminology as well jumps, leaps and turns using sharp motions.
- The Jump portion of the class will include traditional jumps with emphasis on clean movements in and out of the jump skills
- A short pom combo will also be taught that can be used at home during your dance season

Day 2: Jazz Turns and Leaps
- No dance experience needed
- Jazz Turns and Leaps is designed for the dancer who is interested in improving their jazz technique from beginner through advanced levels. Each class begins with a warm-up and stretching section to improve flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. This class introduces turn combos that can be incorporated during the drill and dance season. We will also be teaching the latest transitions in and out of these leap and turn combinations.
- A short jazz combo will also be thought that can be used at home during your dance season.

Day 3: Hip Hop Tips and Tricks
- No dance experience needed
- Hip Hop Tips and Tricks is designed for the dancer who is interested in improving their hip hop technique from beginner through advanced levels. Each class begins with a warm-up and stretching section to improve flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. This class introduces skills that include kip ups, head springs, stalls, and much more. We will also be teaching the transitions that can be used to get in and out of these skills. Bring a friend with you for the opportunity to learn some fun partner skills.
- A short hip hop combo will also be thought that can be used at home during your dance season.

Day 4: Extensions and Contemporary Skills
- No dance experience needed
- Extensions class is designed for the dancer who is interested in improving their flexibility through individual, partner, and group stretching. Each class begins with a warm-up and stretching section to improve flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. This class introduces skills that include inside and outside leg holds, leg hold turns, layouts, and extensions in the tilt position.
- In the contemporary skills portion of the class bring your knee pads and sneakers for some of the latest contemporary floor work.
- A short contemporary combo will also be thought that can be used at home during your dance season.

Camps are open to any and all entrants, limited only by number, age, grade level and gender.
