CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After winning its second consecutive Southland Conference Tournament title, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team will face No. 16 Baylor in Waco for the First Round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships on Saturday, May 13 at 1 p.m. The Islanders and Bears will play the second match of the day, after Texas A&M and Louisiana-Monroe square off in the other contest. The winners of the two matches will play on Sunday, May 14 at 4 p.m.

Islanders Women's Tennis (20-2, 10-1) will make its third appearance in four years in the NCAA Championships, after its debut it 2014. Head coach
Steve Moore will lead a team into postseason play for the 17th time in his illustrious career.

The Islanders rolled through the Southland Conference regular season with a 10-1 record, wrapping up the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed at the conference championship.

In the league tournament, Corpus Christi held off a rally by Stephen F. Austin to win the quarterfinals 4-2, before surging past New Orleans in the semifinals. The Blue and Green sealed their second consecutive Southland crown with a dominant 4-2 win over Central Arkansas.

Moore earned his 11th consecutive Southland Conference Coach of the Year award, the longest by any coach in any sport in league history.

Louise Trigona won Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Southland honors.
Jelena Dzinic,
Maria Maldonado and
Marina Vicens Miquel joined Trigona with First Team laurels, as the Blue and Green tallied four of the six top spots.
Hortense Boscher rounded out the conference awards with an All-Southland Honorable Mention nod.

The Bears were 21-6 overall in 2017 and 7-2 in Big 12 play. After defeating Oklahoma in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament, Baylor dropped its semifinal match to No. 9 Oklahoma State, 4-2.

In the other match in Waco, Sun Belt Conference champions Louisiana-Monroe (16-1) will battle Texas A&M (16-12), a team that lost its opening round match in the SEC Tournament to LSU.
