HAMMOND, La. – Making up a previously postponed conference match due to weather, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team will finally face Southeastern looking for a bounce back in league play Friday at 10 a.m.
The Islanders (11-2, 1-1 SLC) will take on a Southeastern squad (9-2, 2-0 SLC) that has momentous 4-3 wins in conference play over UIW and Lamar, while the road team will be looking to get back to their winning ways after a tight 4-3 loss to Northwestern State in the last conference match. They had opened the year with a 6-1 victory over last year's champions SFA.
Yana Mykytyn and
Kseniya Ramanouskaya have been perfect in conference play both in singles and doubles with 2-0 records at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, and as a duo at No. 1 doubles. Ramanouskaya has yet to relent a dual at all this year with a 12-0 individual singles record while the pairing is untouched at 11-0 all at the top doubles position.
Adriana Jimenez Cazado and
Juliette Jalai both carry 11-1 singles records this season with the latter only seeing a loss come on the road to a nationally respected Rice team.
The winningest tennis team in the history of the conference, Friday's matchup will be pivotal in A&M-Corpus Christi's fight for a fourth consecutive regular season championship after claiming the title in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
The Islanders are 17-1 all-time over the Lady Lions, winning all of the last 17 meetings having only dropped the very first head-to-head all the way back in 2007. Since then, the Islanders haven't allowed Southeastern to win more than two points and have swept them in each of the last four meetings.
