SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team delivered a complete performance across singles and doubles play to secure a 6-1 conference victory over UIW, returning to the win column with authority on Saturday.
Competing away from home, the Islanders set the tone early in doubles action, claiming the point with wins on courts two and three. The duo of Adriana Jimenez and
Viktoriia Sedova opened with a decisive 6-2 victory, before
Josefa Fuenzalida and
Emma Bousquet matched that scoreline to clinch the doubles point.
That momentum carried into singles, where the Islanders claimed five of six matches with a mix of dominant straight-set victories and resilient three-set efforts.
Emma Bousquet was first to finish at No. 6, handling her matchup 6-3, 6-1 to double the lead. Adriana Jimenez quickly followed at No. 5 with one of the most commanding performances of the day, dropping just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 win to push the advantage to 3-0.
At No. 2,
Yana Mykytyn showed poise after splitting the first two sets, regrouping to deliver a decisive 6-0 third set and secure the clinching point for the Islanders.
Josefa Fuenzalida added insurance at No. 4, battling through a tight opening set before pulling away for a 7-5, 6-2 victory.
The Islanders' depth was further on display at No. 3, where
Kseniya Ramanouskaya rebounded from a first-set loss to grind out a 5-7, 6-2, 10-6 win in a match tiebreak, capping the team's fifth singles victory of the afternoon. The lone point for UIW came at the top spot in a three-set contest.
The women remain undefeated against the Cardinals, improving to a perfect 16-0 record over UIW all-time. They will look to continue this success into Monday's meeting at Lamar.
