CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team opens a week a Chapman Field with a 3 p.m. matchup with UTSA on Tuesday. The game will be streamed on the Islanders Digital Network.
The Islanders (7-28, 2-13 SLC) are coming off a 1-2 weekend at Sam Houston State, which was highlighted by the solid pitching of
Liz Carter. The Austin native tossed 16 1/3 innings over the three games, finishing the series with an ERA of 0.86 and an opponent batting average of .179. Carter did not allow an earned run through her first 12 innings on the weekend.
The Islanders and the Roadrunners (17-26, 7-11 C-USA) have met once before this season with the Blue and Green notching a 3-2 win in San Antonio. Carter,
Mackinzee Griebel and
Kandace Johnson recorded multi-hit performances. Carter went the distance striking out three for the win.
Since the start of its conference season, UTSA is fifth in the C-USA West at 7-11 with a 17-26 record overall. Lindsey Stewart has been the constant force at the plate with a .407 batting average. Lizzy Fox is 11-14 in the circle, as the Roadrunners staff has posted a staff ERA of 4.56.
