HAMMOND, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will be guided into its first postseason under head coach Mark Montgomery this weekend after clinching the No. 8 seed for the 2026 Southland Conference Championships, being tasked with an opening matchup against No. 1 Southeastern in the Hammond bracket Thursday at 2 p.m.
The Islanders (14-37, 8-19 SLC) secured their spot in the conference tournament this past weekend, but it was their series sweep over Northwestern State the week prior that was pivotal in locking up the final seed available.
They will now take on the top overall seed in the Lady Lions who host one of the two regional-style bracket play weekends of the tournament. No. 4 UIW and No. 5 Lamar also join the Islanders in the Hammond bracket.
It marks the first tournament appearance for A&M-Corpus Christi since 2024. The Islanders will be going for their first conference tournament win since 2023 when they defeated No. 4 Lamar 3-2 in the first round.
