CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After a school-record 18 road games to start the year, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team finally returns home to Chapman Field for its home opener on Wednesday against Prairie View A&M for a doubleheader at 1 & 3 p.m.
The Islanders (5-13) are coming off a 2-3 weekend at the Ragin' Cajun Invitational. Corpus Christi knocked off North Dakota State on Friday, 4-2, behind a pair of home runs from
Lacey Boyd and
Kandace Johnson.
On Saturday, veterans
Liz Carter and
Candice Hadd went yard in the seventh inning to give the Blue and Green a 7-6 come from behind victory over Alcorn State.
Boyd's six-game hit streak came to an end over the week, as the rookie continues to lead the team with a .333 batting average and slugging .415.
Mackinzee Griebel sent her average at the plate over .300 after hitting .333 over the last five outings.
Kandace Johnson picked up the first win of her career against Alcorn State. The Atascocita native has struck out 19 this season in eight appearances, while Carter has 49 punchouts in 11 starts.
