Tennis Aims to Clinch South Texas Showdown Tuesday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The South Texas Showdown presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union returns to the Island as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams host the UTRGV Vaqueros at 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on the courts of the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
 
The first 200 fans in attendance will receive free South Texas Showdown t-shirt.
 
The Islanders and Vaqueros have already met once this season, with the Blue and Green posting a 6-1 win in men's and women's action. Corpus Christi currently holds a 25-17 edge in the South Texas Showdown series, with 15 points still up for grabs over the final months.
 
Islanders tennis could clinch the South Texas Showdown for A&M-Corpus Christi with a pair of victories on Tuesday.
 
At 7-4 on the season, the Islanders men are coming off a 2-1 weekend at the 51st Annual H-E-B Tournament of Champions. UTRGV went 0-3 at the H-E-B over the weekend.
 
The Islanders and Vaqueros met on February 1 in Edinburg, with the men taking a commanding 6-1 victory. The Blue and Green used wins on courts one and three to earn the doubles point before getting wins on each singles court except the fourth.
 
The women sit at 5-1 on the year entering Tuesday's match and also took down UTRGV by a 6-1 score earler this season. The Islanders used wins at courts one, two, four, five and six to pick up five of the six possible singles points while also grabbing the doubles marker.
