CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Women's tennis returns to the Island as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi hosts McNeese in a noon showdown Friday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.

The Islanders (9-2, 3-1) are looking to climb into a tie for second in the Southland Conference standings with a victory on Friday. A&M-Corpus Christi is coming off a road win at Sam Houston State where the Islanders rolled to a dominant 6-1 victory.

Freshman
Maria Maldonado leads the Islanders with nine wins on the season. Playing primarily in the five spot in the order, Maldonado is 9-2 on the season. Just behind, fellow freshman
Louise Trigona and sophomore
Marina Vicens Miquel have eight victories apiece.

The Islanders and Cowgirls clashed twice in 2016, with the Blue and Green taking both meetings. Each were tight battles, finishing at 4-3, including a thrilling semifinal bout at last year's Southland Conference Championships.

McNeese currently sits at 8-8 on the season and 3-2 in the Southland Conference. Hannah Brett leads the Cowgirls with a 12-3 mark spending the majority of her time at number three.
