Islanders host Cowgirls for Southland battle Friday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Women's tennis returns to the Island as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi hosts McNeese in a noon showdown Friday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.

The Islanders (9-2, 3-1) are looking to climb into a tie for second in the Southland Conference standings with a victory on Friday. A&M-Corpus Christi is coming off a road win at Sam Houston State where the Islanders rolled to a dominant 6-1 victory.

Freshman Maria Maldonado leads the Islanders with nine wins on the season. Playing primarily in the five spot in the order, Maldonado is 9-2 on the season. Just behind, fellow freshman Louise Trigona and sophomore Marina Vicens Miquel have eight victories apiece.

McNeese currently sits at 8-8 on the season and 3-2 in the Southland Conference. Hannah Brett leads the Cowgirls with a 12-3 mark spending the majority of her time at number three.
