SORRENTO, Fla. – Carding the ninth lowest round in program history and sixth lowest in relation to par, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team took the first round lead at the MSU Spring Citrus Challenge, hosted by Morehead State. The Islanders (298) finished the opening round at 10-over par with two players in the top five.
The Blue and Green broke 300 in a round for the first time this year and the 14th time in school history.
Brooklyn Sutton (71) holds the individual lead following day one. Her score of 1-under was the first under par round for Corpus Christi since 2013-14. The Spring Branch, Texas, native tied for the 13th lowest round in program history.
Dani Bergmann (72) matched her career low with an even par score in the first round. The German international is tied for third, one shot back of Sutton.
Freshman
Autumn Bynum (76) carded a round of 4-over to finish the opening day tied for 17th, while
Julia Dereniwsky (79) shot 7-over to cap the scoring and will open the second round tied for 37th.
Ana Paredes (80) will start day two in 49th playing as an individual.
The Islanders have a two-shot lead over Florida Gulf Coast (300), while Akron (302) followed in third.
Joining Sutton at the top of the leaderboard, FGCU's Madeline Marck-Sherk was 1-under in the opening round.
Round two begins for the Blue and Green on the first tee at 10:18 a.m. on Monday.
